Marvel Team-Up #52, 1976. “Danger: Demon on a Rampage”

Image (79)

One of Marvel’s best titles on any list,  in the 70’s, has to be Marvel Team-Up! From one issue to the next, you’d get two heroes (Spider-Man, plus one), battling against all sorts of crazy villains, creatures, or just shenanigans of some sort. This was a great formula, and although it sounds like it would be tough to keep going at a great pace, it wasn’t thanks to creators like Gerry Conway (writer), Sal Buscema (pencils), Mike Esposito (inks), and Al Milgrom (cover)! Enjoy!

Thor #251, 1976. “To Hela and Back”

OK, first things first. I have no idea who “Norman Davis” is, but he was nice enough to sign the front cover, inside cover, and the first page, in blue marker. Thank you, Norman. Alright, that is a downer, but for fifty cents, I couldn’t pass up this fantastic issue starring the Thunder god, Hela, and others. Story by Len Wein, art by “Big” John Buscema & Tony DeZuniga, and colors by Glynis Wein. Cover by Jack “King” Kirby, Joe Sinnott, and Dan Crespi! Enjoy!

Marvel Premiere #27, 1975. “Deathcry”

Image (55)

Does anything scream 1970’s more than Marvel Horror? Probably not, and that’s why I chose this wild cover for today! Meet the sister of Damon Hellstrom, Satana! In this issue, we see Satana, as she walks the mortal plane, in search of…who knows what? Anyway, she kills some people, fights off a demon, and looks rather sexy doing it, I might add. Written by Chris Claremont, pencils & inks by The Tribe, Marcos on letters, and Cohen on colors (Marv Wolfman-editor). Cover by Gil Kane! Enjoy!

Dr. Strange #183, 1969. “Beware The Undying Ones”

Image (50)

On the very first page of this book, we get to see a quote from H.P. Lovecraft, and also, some spectacular work from Gene Colan there and throughout the entire book. Back in the late 1960’s, Colan and Thomas had something very special brewing together with this title, and that would lead to a regular series that lasted for over eighty issues, starring Dr. Strange! Check out this final issue of that amazing series (Thomas & Colan) from those two great creators! Cover by Gene Colan and Bill Everett! Enjoy!

The Eternals #1, 1976. “When Gods Walked the Earth”

A couple of years ago, I decided to dig deeper into the wondrous world of Jack Kirby. Being a Marvel zombie at the time, I thought I’d grab this series if I could find it in its entirety, and for a bargain. Well, I’m happy to say that for $38, I bought the full series (yes, even the Annual) for that low price! Most of the books are in good condition, and only a couple are a little worse for the wear, but still readable. This fantastic series takes a journey through ancient times, and gives the reader a glimpse at the future too! Written, drawn, and edited by the King (inks by John Verpoorten)!

Where Monsters Dwell #2, 1970. “I Created Sporr, The Thing That Could Not Die”

You know, whenever you can grab some Jack Kirby/Dick Ayers awesomeness, you need to take advantage, because gems like this aren’t stacked by the dozen everywhere. I just bought this book today at a local convention (Lehigh Valley Comic Con) for fifty cents! That’s right, half a buck for one of the best artists of all time! This is one of the fabulous reprint titles that are starting to creep up in price, so I grabbed it quick! Enjoy!

Strange Tales #178- Featuring Warlock!

Image (16)

I’m a huge fan of Jim Starlin’s work, and honestly, everyone should be! Just check out this spacey cover from 1975! The interiors are just as trippy, and you’d be hard pressed to find a better representation of this decade! Enjoy!

Astonishing Tales #1, 1970. “Ka-Zar & Dr. Doom”

Image (15)

Another day, another fantastic cover! This one features a Ka-Zar versus Kraven the Hunter story by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Then, a tale of madness with the insidious Dr. Doom, by Roy Thomas and Wally Wood!  Circa 1970! Enjoy!

Astonishing Tales #13, 1972! “Featuring Man-Thing”

Astonishing Tales! Featuring Man-Thing!

Ka-Zar vs. Man-Thing! A cover a day for the month of December! All this will lead to 2014, and my new comic book and movie review blog! Be ready! In the meantime, enjoy this great cover by Rich Buckler!
